Beginning Monday, driving to Urgent Care is going to mean a whole new route.

Urgent Care was born June 17, 1997, in Brainerd. Now, nearly 15 years later, the medical staff is moving from the clinic on South Sixth Street in Brainerd to the Baxter Medical Park and the new clinic, which is open for business Monday.

Even with the announced move, clinic staff expect patients will still make their way to south Brainerd before everyone realizes Urgent Care is one of the services making the move to Isle Drive near Walmart in Baxter to the newly constructed clinic.

BURGLARY — A report at 4:42 p.m. Thursday of three teenagers attempting to gain entry of a residence on the 400 block of First Avenue Northeast.

ARRESTS — A 32-year-old woman was arrested at 8:50 p.m. Thursday on the 800 block of Oak Street for driving after cancellation and inimical public safety.

INFORMATION — A report at 3:28 p.m. Thursday of a person standing in a home that was burned down at an earlier time.

DISTURBANCE — Brainerd High School, 702 S. Fifth St., Thursday reported a disturbance.

Fire departments receive grant approval for new radio system

Fire departments in the Brainerd lakes area are getting closer to having the new 800-megahertz radio system in place that will allow them to serve and protect citizens in an even more efficient fashion.

The new radio system uses digital technology and allows police, fire and emergency personnel to communicate on any number of channels across the country, region and even the state. Cass County is already using the new system and Crow Wing County will start using the 800-megahertz system on May 1, which includes the Brainerd Fire Department.

No snow in home state, Toro tests snowblowers in Michigan

IRONWOOD, Mich. (AP) — Minnesota-based Toro is following the snow and testing some of its equipment in Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

The Daily Globe in Ironwood reports Friday that Toro has been testing snowblowers since Jan. 10 at Gogebic-Iron County Airport.

Plans were to test them in northern Minnesota, but not enough snow has fallen there this winter.

Airport manager Duane DuRay says Ironwood Township had about three inches of snow cover when Toro called about the testing. But even that was enough. This week there were snow piles of two to three feet deep at the airport.

Judges to discharge man from sex offender program

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A 64-year-old pedophile will become the first patient to be discharged from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program.

The Star Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/yoRhvq) the decision to release Clarence Opheim was made Friday by a three-judge panel in Ramsey county, after there was no objection from prosecutors or the Department of Human Services.

Minnesota started its sex offender program in 1994. Opheim has been there since then. He had been convicted of criminal sexual assault of a teenage boy in the late 1980s.
